Catherine Ford, born in Bloomsbury (London), was raised by the mother, her grandmother, as well as her godparents. Her father abandoned her family. While a small girl, Ford was battling obsessive/compulsive disorders and anxiety caused by word associations. Ford started to become interested in acting as a teenager, and she joined the National Youth Theatre. She was accepted to the Sylvia Young Theatre School. After just a month, she decided that it wasn't suitable for her. Ford reapplied for admission to the Central School of Speech and Drama and, after the fourth time she applied, she was finally admitted. Shaun Dingwall - who later played Pete Tyler in Doctor Who was among her fellow students. Ford's debut on TV was an episode in 1991 called Surgical Spirit. By the moment she was done with school, Ford already went by "Catherine Tate". Tate first appeared on television in 1991, appearing on shows like The Bill. Men Behaving Badly. as well as London's Burning. Tate was a regular performer on stage and was a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company's 2000-2001 season. Tate was recognized as a stand-up comedian that became part of her portfolio in 1996.
